Jack’s preview: Memories of the summer break are receding fast for Jack and the rest of the MotoGP riders, with last weekend’s Czech Republic Grand Prix preceding a one-day test at Brno on Monday, and then this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix taking centre-stage. For Jack, simply seeing the chequered flag at the Red Bull Ring would be a victory of sorts; he missed the return of MotoGP to Austria in 2016 after a crash in Sunday morning warm-up left him with back and right wrist injuries, while last year, Jack fell at Turn 9 with eight laps remaining while running in 14th place, having gained six places on the opening lap after a lacklustre qualifying left him mired in 19th on the grid. The characteristics of the undulating track in the Styrian Alps – essentially three long straights with a twistier infield section – should suit Jack’s Ducati and its prodigious top speed down to the ground, and the Italian marque has won both races since the return of the championship to Austria, Andrea Iannone saluting in 2016, and Andrea Dovizioso emerging victorious from an incredible last-lap battle with Marc Marquez 12 months ago. Jack has had just one top-10 result in the past five races (10th at Assen), and the Red Bull Ring shapes as the ideal layout to recapture some of the early-season form that has had him inside the top 10 in the standings since Qatar.

Jack’s Austria highlight: Any finish this weekend would be it, while in qualifying, Jack hasn’t been in Q2 since Mugello, which should change this Saturday.
