Points came at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit last year – can Jack repeat the feat this Sunday?
Race: Gran Premio Motul de la Republica Argentina
Round: 2 of 18
Date/time: Sunday April 3, 4pm local (5am AEST)
Circuit: Termas de Rio Hondo, 14 corners, clockwise
Distance/laps: 4.8km, 25 laps
2015 podium: Rossi-Dovizioso-Crutchlow
Jack’s results in Argentina
2015 (MotoGP): qualified 21st, finished 12th
2014 (Moto3): qualified 1st, finished 3rd
(Note 2014 was the first world championship round held at the circuit).
Jack says: “I feel really positive coming to Argentina because I’ve been working really hard on my physical preparation. I was walking in the mountains for five hours and I feel already that I’ve got a lot more motion in my right ankle, which is getting better each day after my accident in January. This is a track I think that will be more suited to the Honda and I like it, so I’m here with high hopes and looking forward to putting to good use all the experience we gained in Qatar.”
Watch for: Turn 13, the second-last corner, especially in the closing laps. Jack knows what it’s like to be denied a win with two turns left, a clash with Romano Fenati costing him a win in Moto3 in Argentina two years ago. If it’s close in any of the three classes, expect fireworks on Sunday.
Argentina fast fact: The country hosted the first non-European GP in 1961, Buenos Aires the site of the final round of that season.
